UNESCO Conference: NEFU scientists and experts to cooperate with researchers of the Arctic from Canada, USA, Italy and Germany
At the federal university, The International Conference "Social and Human Adaptation of the Arctic Regions to Climate Change and Globalization" with the participation of UNESCO experts was completed. 223 scientists and experts from 10 countries presented their ideas to improve life in the Arctic.
Large conference was held in seven sections: the researchers talked about the health of the inhabitants of the Arctic, the socio-economic development, biological resources, and industrial development of the North.
"Through NEFU Department of Northern Studies, agreement on the development of a thematic network of the University of the Arctic in librarianship is reached. Professors of the University of Alaska Bella Kar and the University of Alberta (Canada) Sandra Melody Campbell declared to support projects of the federal university", the head of NEFU UNESCO Chair Anatoly Sleptsov said.
"Association of World Reindeer Herders interested in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair - they presented a joint research project concerning the indigenous culture and traditional knowledge of reindeer herding peoples of the world. Boris Kochurov, Senior Fellow of the Institute of Geography RAS, invited to join the project of comprehensive program "Our Arcontin(g)ent. Balanced development of the Arctic”, head of the department said.
Scientists presented 40 poster reports, 135 scientific papers in Russian and English languages at the conference, according to organizers. During the conference, it was decided to establish a joint master's program of NEFU Institute of Psychology and NArFU.
