Research article of NEFU IREN scientists about agriculture in Yakutia was published in the Canadian Journal “Modern Applied Science”

The research article about the unique experience and achievements of the Sakha people in the development of agriculture in the North of the scientists group of NEFU Institute of Regional Economy of the North was published in the Canadian scientific journal "Modern Applied Science”. The journal is included in the Scopus database.

"In recent decades food supply of the population at the expense of local production was sharply reduced and food security of the country was significantly weakened. Due to mutual economic sanctions of the EU and the USA, it is necessary to ensure food security of the country and the region at the expense of local import of agricultural products. The Republic needs to maintain its leadership position not only in the North, but also in the world on the maintenance and development of agriculture in extreme conditions of the Far North", the authors of scientific article said. Professor Egor Egorov, Director of Research Center Yury Danilov and a senior fellow of the Center Mikhail Nikiforov worked on article.

Sakha people made a great contribution to the development of the northern civilization, creating an original northern system of peoples life, the economic basis of which were cattle breeding, herd horses and the development of agriculture, the authors think. "Derivation of local cattle breeds and horses using traditional selection, as well as the development of northern agriculture (fodder production), in fact, became the traditional industries of natural resources use and the main activity of numerous Indigenous Peoples of the North", the scientists write.

"Agricultural land - grazing lands of cattle and deer, grasslands, including forests, lakes, rivers, used for hunting and fishing, should refer to the objects of traditional natural resources use and be protected by the rights of all Indigenous Peoples to these objects", the scientists of NEFU Institute of Regional Economy of the North think.
