Translation of the Olonkho "Eles Botur" in French of storyteller Petr Ogotoev was presented. Department of French Philology of NEFU Institute of Foreign Philology and Regional Studies introduced the epos translation to the students and guests.

Author of the project, Associate Professor Valentina Shaposhnikova told how she has started the work. "Once son of olonkhosut, khomus music performer Petr Ogotoev came to the department. He strongly asked me to translate "Eles Botur" into French. I had no idea that such a major work can be translated. Persuasions lasted whole year. Then I thought: "I am an experienced lecturer, teaching disciplines such as "Analytical Reading", "Stylistics", so I know how to make the structure of the text. I decided to try. I fought a few weeks over the first two lines of olonkho... ", Associate Professor said.

The first translation of the Yakut epos in French was carried out in 1990 - "Nurgun Botur the Swift" was translated according to Tatta olonkhosut Konstantin Orosin. In 1994, the text, translated by Jean Caro and Irina Sabaraykina, was published in a collection of masterpieces of the Yakut literature.

Valentin Isakov storyteller introduced one song - passage from "Eles Bootur", IFPRS student Stepan Pavlov read a passage from the French translation.

Director of the Institute Olga Melnichuk remembers how she was requested to edit the text translation. "I knew the epos only by the text of Vladimir Derzhavin in Russian - reading was difficult. Therefore, starting to read the translation of Valentina Shaposhnikova I thought that it would be a hard work. But I was fascinated with reading, enjoyed it, sometimes forgetting about my editorial functions. This is the first criterion that the translation was successful - it was written in natural language to a native speaker, ", the professor said.

The author had a task – not to change the main text, but also to write in a language that the French-speaking readers may understand it. This task was done, guests of the presentation noted. Translation of the epos is a great event for the department and the institute, the Head of the Department Marianna Samsonova said. "It gives a great incentive for research work. For example, two PhD theses were protected due to the first translation of Olonkho "Nurgun Botur the Swift", she said.
