Moscow International Model UN: NEFU students decide issues of global crisis
This year, a number of important issues for the world community in the field of development, security of solutions to social and financial problems were on the agenda of Moscow International Model UN. NEFU students took an active part at the event, which was held on April 20-24 in Moscow.
"This year, United Nations is celebrating the 70th anniversary and the Secretariat of MIMUN 2015 tried to make this model special. More than 650 delegates participated in 12 committees, working in the six official languages of the international organization. Meetings of the committees were held in Russian, English, French, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish. Delegates considered the issue of global employment crisis, the right of peoples to self-determination, safety of journalists and the issue of impunity, and other issues deserving high attention. An extensive cultural program included excursions, «Global Village» cultural festivals, traditional MIMUN ball and other events", Tatev Maytesyan, student of NEFU Institute of Finances and Economics. The delegation of North-Eastern Federal University consisted of Ivan Trofimov, student of the Faculty of History, and Albert Nikanorov, student of master’s program of Philological Faculty.
"The basis of any profession related to international affairs, diplomacy, politics, or business is the ability to communicate with people who represent other countries, cultures and religions. We believe that MGIMO can be regarded the international university. And we want the atmosphere of internationalism and tolerance to always reign in the student community. This is one of the reasons why we annually hold the Model", Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, said in his speech.
According to the organizers, more than a thousand people applied for the Model, but the Secretariat of MIMUN-2015 has selected 650 most deserving participants from 28 countries. Representatives from Europe, China, South Korea, Mexico, Vietnam and other countries participated at the event.
