The President of the Association of National Olympic Committee Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was awarded a title of NEFU Honorary Professor on 23 August. The ceremony was held at the enlarged meeting of the NEFU Academic Council.

«It is the great honor to be awarded a title of one of the ten federal universities of Russia. I've got a lot of different titles, official positions, but sport is still the dearest area for me», says the sheikh. The honorary title was given to the sheikh for a significant contribution to the development of youth sport, for a personal impact on a policy of peace and cooperation between countries and regions.

«I remember, over 20 years ago I met Yakut delegation and we discussed the development of youth sport. It was a challenge, but we supported the idea and, finally, in 1996 we held the first international games «Children of Asia». I’m happy games are improving and more than 20 countries take part in the competition», says the sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

The sheikh is the honorary professor of the many prestigious universities in Japan, South Korea, Taipei and USA. «The sheikh’s active international activity, outstanding personal contribution to the development of the sport, promotion the ideas of the Olympic movement cause admiration and respect, recognition and support», noted NEFU rector Evgenia Mikhailova.

The Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah appealed to the students during a solemn meeting of the Academic Council. He urged them to properly invest in their future. Also the sheikh hopes for further cooperation.

The title of NEFU Honorary Professor is awarded to prominent figures of science, education, culture and sports, state and public figures.
