“The Shaman’s Dream” by Yakut classic Aleksey Kulakovsky was translated into Japanese

“The Shaman’s Dream” poem by Aleksey Kulakovsky, founder of the Yakut literature, was published in the Japanese Journal “Culture & Language”. According to NEFU Institute of A. E. Kulakovsky, Professor Junichi Suzuki of Sapporo University presented the poem translation.

As noted by specialists of the Institute, the poem translation was carried out within the frameworks of cooperation agreement between NEFU and Sapporo University (Japan). “The heritage of Yakut classic becomes a part of the world community.  This translation is an important historical event not only for the entire republic, but also for the world community. I wish the world would get interested in great works of Yakut classics and their poems were included into the Treasury of World Civilization through translations into the world languages”, Director of the Institute of A.E. Kulakovsky Lyudmila Kulakovskaya said.

Translation of the text was made under supervision of Professor Junichi Suzuki, Vice Rector of Sapporo University. According to the Institute, Japanese colleagues are planning to translate other famous works of Yakut classic.

“The Shaman’s Dream” poem was written in 1910 and is considered to be the peak of author’s creation. The work is the fruit of deep thinking of the poet about the fate of the native people and the problems of the contemporary world.
