International students to study at NEFU Summer Schools

According to NEFU International Relations Office, two Summer Schools for international students –“Summer in Siberia” and “Cold Lands” to open at North-Eastern Federal University in August. More than 20 students from the Asian countries, Europe, USA, and Mexico are expected to participate.

Two schools for foreign students will work for three weeks. "This year school program “Summer in Siberia" included section "Nature. People. Culture", aimed at a closer study of the culture, geography and history, students will also learn Russian and Yakut languages", said Lena Vinokourova, Head of NEFU Department for Arctic Cooperation of International Relations Office.

Summer field school program "Cold Lands" was developed by NEFU in conjunction with the Arctic University of Norway and Hokkaido University. According to NEFU International Relations Office, applications for training were received from Mexico, Alaska, China, Japan, Canada, USA, Europe, UK. "Last year, the school worked in Norway, this year we will accept students. The arrival of more than ten foreign students from all over the world is expected", said the head of Department for Arctic Cooperation.

Students will have an opportunity to be a part of the multicultural society of Yakutia. The program includes lectures, seminars and field works for the study of permafrost and natural disasters. Foreign students are offered an extensive cultural program with visits to museums, exhibitions and theaters of Yakutsk, ethnographic and tourist centers.

"Yakutia is a unique region, known for its nature and low temperatures, permafrost, rich natural and mineral resources, vast territory. History of the Republic Peoples, their culture, traditions and customs are of great interest and value to all humanity and science", said Lena Vinokourova.
