Researches at NEFU will present the results of studies on the impact of space weather on people and the environment at the XIII International Russian-Chinese conference "Space weather". The Scientific Forum will be held on August 15-21 at the Institute of Space Physical Researches and Aeronomy named after Y.G. Shafer SB RAS.

"Researchers at NEFU Institute of Physics and Technologies and Medical institutions, Institute of Space Physical Researches SB RAS conducted studies that have proven that disasters occur during strong geomagnetic storms. The number of heart attacks and strokes, traffic accidents, man-made disasters increases with the manifestations of solar activity. To reduce the negative impact of space weather on technical systems and living organisms, we should be able to predict the times of greatest activity", says head of the Department of Theoretical Physics at the NEFU Institute of Physics and Technologies, Professor Yury Grigoriev.

Researchers from China will join the conference: they will discuss with their Russian counterparts the factors of space weather that adversely affect the technological systems and human health, will present the results of fundamental research of solar-terrestrial relations.

According to the Professor of the Institute, the Chinese side has the opportunity to study natural processes in the low latitudes, and experimental base of the Institute of Space Physical Researches SB RAS allows to carry out scientific work in high latitudes. Also Yuri Grigoriev added that the possibilities of cooperation between the Federal University named after Maxim Ammosov and research institutions of China that study space weather will be discussed at the conference.
