North-Eastern Federal University is the leader among Russian universities in the number of scientific publications devoted to the Arctic and the North, President of the University of the Arctic Lars Kullerud noted during the seminar "COLD LANDS”, organized by the Department of Northern Studies.

Lars Kullerud presented the results of the analysis group. They were engaged in the processing of Arctic research results at the universities as a whole, to show universities the current situation and prospects of scientific research. According to the professor, there were 96,000 articles about the Arctic in English since 2006. "The role of social media increases, in which the publications show impact of research on society. Following the results of the analysis, 89,000 tweets related to the Arctic research had been written during 10 years”, said the scientist.

Following the results of monitoring, NEFU leads in the Russian segment. However, the federal university is not among the leaders by the publications indexed in Scopus database. The world leaders are the Russian Academy of Sciences and M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.

UArctic President praised the efforts of the Federal University on creation the conditions for increasing publication activity. Lars Kullerud acquainted with the work of NEFU information project "New World of the Arctic", which publishes journals "Arctic of the XXI century" and promised support from the University of the Arctic. "It is gratifying that journals have the results of our common activity, joint publications with colleagues from partner organizations are published", he said.
