Expert of Open Startup Tour Pekka Viljakainen: "NEFU may become a model uniting startups"

Annually, over a hundred innovation events for students and local businesses are held on the basis of North-Eastern Federal University. There was a meeting with the experts of Forum Open Innovations Startup on January 31.

"We support all initiatives of teachers and university scientists. NEFU is the founder of 25 Small Innovative Enterprises (SIE) with annual income of RUR 389 million. The university provides them with a place and expensive equipment free of charge. All SIE include ideas of our researchers", said Rector Evgenia Mikhailova.

Presidential Advisor of "Skolkovo" Foundation Pekka Viljakainen noted that seven years ago universities in Finland were against the startups. "When the mobile company Nokia had a bad time, we had to come up with something. Fortunately, the leadership of Aalto University (Finland) has developed a special program on startups. University began to provide facilities for various startups, in which Finnish students could be involved as volunteers. Students receive additional points for their work. Now, seven years later, the entire community includes 50 thousand people and the company earned more than six billion dollars", he said.

Pekka Viljakainen wished Ammosov Federal University to become a role model that unites community of startups and the initiator of this movement.

Let us remember that student business incubator “Oreh” works since 2012 at NEFU. In 2016, they were awarded National Award in the field of innovative entrepreneurship, taking first place in the nomination "The best student business incubator".
