PhD student of North-Eastern Federal University Erchimen Izbekov won the diploma of the third degree at the International Student Competition in Mathematics MathOpen 2017 Belarus, which took place on February 22-24 in Mogilev on the basis of Belarusian-Russian University.
The knowledge needed to solve mathematical competition problems, laid on the first and second year of bachelor degree course, according to PhD student of NEFU Institute of Mathematics and Informatics Erchimen Izbekov. "A distinctive feature of the competition is that students and PhD students can participate in it. As a student, I won silver at the MathOpen Belarus. Now I pay more attention to scientific work", he said.
The competition was attended by students and PhD students from 21 universities of Belarus, Iran, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic. The competition consisted of 30 tasks in the test form. "Usually the jury evaluate the progress of solutions, and even in the case of incorrect solution you can earn extra points in other competitions. But here the jury takes into account only the result", he noted.
A representative of the organizing competition committee, Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics of Belarusian-Russian University Vitaly Zamuraev noted the need to increase the amount of original problems, as well as to expand geography of the participants, to attract more teams from foreign universities. "Implementation of the International Mathematical Competitions allows you to not only identify the most gifted students and improve the quality of education, but also contributes to the establishment of closer ties between the students and teachers of different countries", he said.
