This week, Aileen Espiritu, PhD, researcher of the University of Tromsø (Norway), doctor of philological sciences and Galina Andreyeva, professor of NEFU Faculty of Philology, gave lectures within the project "Our University_Lectures".
Doctor Espiritu is engaged in research of northern cities development. She told about the sustainable development of cities in the Arctic zone. "We compared the Arctic cities of Russia, Finland, Norway, Canada and Alaska. The main goal was to preserve culture and quality of life", the scientist explained. She noted that Yakutsk is an interesting object for study. "There are minor climate changes here. The population of the city grows, there are no mass mobility", she said.
Galina Andreyeva, professor of the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature of NEFU Faculty of Philology, dedicated a lecture to L.N. Tolstoy - on the disclosure of hidden meanings in the novels of the Russian classic. "How did Russian literature conquer other authors? The novel "War and Peace" by Lev Tolstoy entered the list of the publishing house Newsweek. Besides Lev Tolstoy, no Russian writer has been included in this list. Some talk about the volume, some about the philosophy of the novel, others refer to the features of the author", she noted.
The lecturer believes that one can not judge Tolstoy's work by some texts and works. "It is not correct to study his every work as the individual elements, they are all interconnected. The symbols that he uses are transformed and become more and more meaningful", the professor noted.
The project of NEFU editorial board of corporate media highlights current topics in various fields of science weekly. The videos of "Our University_Lectures" are published twice a week on NEFU official channel in YouTube.
