The Institute was established on the base of the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Yakutsk Pedagogical Institute. 

In 1956 after opening of Yakutsk State University there was intensive training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in Mathematics, and in 1977 the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was divided into two faculties: Mathematical and Physical. 

In 1999 the Faculty of Mathematics was reorganized into the Institute of Mathematics and Information Science at the initiative of the first President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) M.E. Nikolayev.

The main goal of our institute is to educate highly qualified personnel of Bachelor and Master in the following specialties:

• Mathematics
• Applied Mathematics and Information Science
• Fundamental Informatics and Information Technologies
• Information Science and Computer
• Applied Mathematics
• Pedagogical Education

We teach to analyze, set and formulate the new goals and tasks. Our students get analytical thinking and ready to control complex system. The education given at our Institute gives the opportunity to develop as a personality in career plan.

The Institute of Mathematics and Information Science is always developed, opens the new specialties, using new technologies, new forms of education.
