The Yakut epos went global. Olonkho “Nurgun Botur the Swift” was published in English and Kyrgyz

On November 25, the presentation of two masterpieces of folk art was held: “Nurgun Botur the Swift” in English and Kyrgyz and “Manas” Kyrgyz epos in the Yakut language. The translations are realized within the project of NEFU Research Institute of Olonkho.

"The full-text translation of all nine Olonkho songs of Platon Oyunsky “Duluruyar Nurgun Botur" into English by NEFU teacher staff and interpreters was made for the first time. This is a great event not only for the cultural life of the Sakha people, but also a global event, a great contribution to the world culture. Finally, our pride, the unique monument of folk art, carefully preserved by Oyunsky, will be available to the entire world community”, Alina Nakhodkina, the Head of NEFU IFPRS Department of Interpretation, project coordinator.

The team of interpreters of North-Eastern Federal University took part in the creation and preparation of the text translation: Alina Nakhodkina, Albina Scryabina, Zoya Tarasova, Sofia Kholmogorova, Lyudmila Shadrina, Varvara Alekseyeva, Svetlana Egorova-Johnstone and foreign editors: Master of Linguistics at the University of Laval (Canada) Geneviève Perrault, editor of «Renaissance Books» publishing house (UK) Paul Norbury.

"The dream of Platon Oyunsky came true: our epos went global. English translation had already admired the Western world ", Vasily Ivanov, Director of NEFU Research Institute of Olonkho said.

Translation of the Olonkho "Nurgun Botur the Swift" in the Kyrgyz language was made by Sharshenaly Abdyldaev. The book was published in Kyrgyz publishing house "Turar" with a circulation of 1,000 copies. Semen Rufov, National Writer of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Vasily Illarionov, Doctor of Philology, NEFU Professor participated in editorial work. The project was carried out on the initiative of Aleksandr Zhirkov, the Chairman of the National Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Implementation of the Olonkho Decade of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

NEFU joint creative team of interpreters, researchers and specialists made translation in the Yakut language of cutdown version of the great Kyrgyz epos «Manas», made by a translator, writer, Chairman of the World Association «Eposes of the Nation» Beksultan Zhakiev. The book includes two versions of the translation: the first version under the guidance of NEFU Professor Tamara Petrova and editor of the literary miscellany "Kyuryulgen" Afanasy Gurinov-Archylan, the second - Trofim Kirillin interpreter.

National Organizing Committee for the Olonkho Decade awarded certificates of appreciation. NEFU Professor Vasily Illarionov was awarded honorary "Excellence in Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic". Special gratitude was extended to NEFU Rector Evgenia Mikhailova, who supported the project on folk epos translations.

During the presentation, fragments of epos were read in English and Kyrgyz languages, Peter Tikhonov presented an excerpt from the Olonkho "Nurgun Botur the Swift."
