On 29 September, NEFU started international conference "Cold resistance. New technologies for engineering and construction of the North and the Arctic". Leading scientists from Russia, Germany and Cameroon discussed the developments of new technologies and materials for use in extremely cold conditions.

Cold resistance problems concern not only scientists from Russia, but also other countries, according to Director of NEFU Technological Institute Aleksey Bessmertny. "The idea to hold the conference belongs to Professor Aleksandr Lyglaev, due to his works Yakutia attracted the attention of the world's experts on cold resistance. The federal university is an outpost of science in studying this issue in the region. Yakutia has the resources and conditions for realization of research projects", said director of the Institute.

Cold resistance problems open a wide range of scientific research. Scientists of the Department of Arc Welding, Diagnostics and Structures Monitoring of NEFU Technological Institute work together with the researchers of Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Krasnoyarsk Polytechnic Institute and other universities.

Developments on the cold resistance complement each other and allow to create new materials and technologies, according to Oleg Sleptsov, the Chairman of the section on fundamental and applied aspects of the development of materials, equipment and technologies for welding in the North and the Arctic, Doctor of Technical Sciences. "The damage caused by climatic destruction is billions of rubles. Therefore, each new scientific approach allows to create technologies adapted to extreme conditions in order to reduce the risk of major accidents", said the doctor of technical sciences.

The conference was held in four sections on 29-30 September. "We will make recommendations for the world scientific community, Russian scientists to discuss the issues and to expand the subject", said Aleksey Bessmertny.
