Natalya Yakovleva, Doctor of Science: “The scientist should use all modern tools to find partners”

On January 16, research and scientific seminar for NEFU staff and teachers was held at NEFU Institute of Economics and Finances. The seminar was about engagement of foreign partners for joint research. Natalya Yakovleva, Doctor of Science, teacher of the University Newcastle, graduate of the Institute, was the Speaker.

Natalya Yakovleva, graduate of the Department of world economy, NEFU Institute of Economics and Finances, wrote her dissertation about social and environmental responsibility of mining enterprises. “I earned a PhD, became the Doctor of Philosophy in the field of environmental safety”, told lecturer. Now she works on leadership and management in a sustainable development context and will take part in NEFU SAE realization in Economics.

The lecturer presented the main requirements to teachers of British Universities: academic degree, publications in leading journals, participation in grant programs, teaching at the bachelor’s and master’s level. “There is no need to neglect academic social networks for establishing the international scientific contacts – it would be helpful, if the department, faculty or scientist will create the special website, publish their researches available to the public. Google citations, Mendeley, Academia.edu and others are very useful for searching articles citations, feedback – because the scientist should know, who reads him, which themes are interesting for colleagues”.

Individual activity of researcher benefits the University, according to the lecturer. “PhD candidates, colleagues, interested in cooperation, can find you due to the open access of articles. The higher your individual reputation, the more favorable for your department and University”, said the economist.
